About ASIP
Background and aims
Background 1: Confronting competition from the rise of emerging nations
In this era of globalization, the market in emerging countries is increasingly developing and becoming more important on a global scale. Amid the promotion of multipolarity of the international order, the prime task is to incorporate emerging nations through diplomatic and economic strategies. For this reason, people who can play a leading role in enhancing Japan’s international competitive power are needed.
Background 2: Solving the problem of the gap between gaining a degree and getting a job
Graduation and the completion of requirements for one’s degree are often unnecessarily prolonged by study-abroad programs. Furthermore, students who are required to search for jobs are hindered by potential distractions from their studies. To solve these problems, it is necessary to create a more appropriate learning environment.
Aims of ASIP
To encourage study abroad and promote innovative area studies subjects that focus on emerging countries, a five-year degree program - the Area Studies Innovation Program (ASIP)- which combines the bachelor’s and master’s degrees, was launched in April 2013.
